Description

The only circulating commemorative 50 stotinki coin of the People's Republic of Bulgaria.

Issued to commemorate the University Games sport event in Sofia (Universiada 1977). Designed by Stefan Ненов (Stefan Nenov) and Георги Чапкънов Georgi Chapkunov.

Notably, neither side of the coin has a legend that shows which country it is from.

Coat of Arms of the People's Republic of Bulgaria (the second version: two ribbons under gear wheel at lion's feet, one with date 681 - foundation of Bulgaria, the other one 1944 - year of the communist revolution). Below that, in three lines the denomination and date, 50 СТОТИНКИ 1977 (50 Стотинки 1977 - 50 Stotinki 1977).

Separated by the Coat of Arms, in small letters the designers' initials СН (SN for Stefan Nenov) and ГЧ (GCh for Georgi Chapkunov).
