This is one of Perth Mint's historic sets, containing a newly minted coin and a historic old coin. The old coin in the set was struck by the Melbourne Mint - to the 150th anniversary of which the set is dedicated.
The Mint says about it: An exclusive pairing of two momentous 22-carat gold coins, this remarkable set comprises a historic 1872 ‘M’ shield sovereign and a stunning Australia Sovereign 2022 Gold Proof Coin from The Perth Mint. With an issue limit of just 20, it’s a rare opportunity for any avid collector.
Produced at the Melbourne Mint in its opening year, the 150-year-old sovereign features Jean Baptiste Merlen’s crowned shield of the Royal Arms and an "M" mintmark. The coin’s obverse captures a youthful Queen Victoria as portrayed in William Wyon’s famous "Young Head". Presented in Very Fine to Extremely Fine condition, the scarce coin is extremely collectable.
The Perth Mint’s Australia Sovereign features a design inspired by Leonard Charles Wyon’s 1855 reverse for the Sydney Mint’s first sovereigns. The design is embellished with a special platinum-plated representation of St Edward's Crown and a small "70" numeric privy mark in celebration of HM Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. With a mintage of 1,000, the flawless coin’s obverse portrays Jody Clark’s effigy of the Queen.
This lavish sovereign tribute is presented in a befitting prestige black timber glossed case accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. |
