Set of four gold medals featuring Czechoslovak culture themes.
The annual Ducat series which started in 1997 is a traditional issue of the Czech Mint. The theme for 2017 is the art of the First Republic in all its forms.
"Culture is one of the best things, that was left for us by our first independent state in the 20th century. Besides the great personality of TG Masaryk, we may name many outstanding artists of many disciplines. Some of them have been able to reach a wider audience than just the domestic one. We can say that the most important personalities of our culture until then, were left-oriented. But this did not apply without exception, as evidenced, for example, we have a group of Catholic-oriented artists. The democratic state allowed the culture of coexistence and natural contest of ideas without political influence", says the Ducat series author and history expert, academic sculptor Michal Vitanovský. |
