The 2015 Protea Launch Set consists of a 1oz and 1/10oz 24ct gold coins, as well as the sterling-silver proof coin. The two gold coins in the set have "Johannesburg" privy marks on the obverse. There is also an oblong silver medal.

The "Life of a Legend - Nelson Mandela" Protea series was introduced in 2013, representing a different chapter of Nelson Mandela’s life on each year’s coin issue. The 2015 edition of the series focuses on Mr Mandela’s arrival and early years in Johannesburg.
