The obverse of the coin displays the bust of King Charles III, which depicts him bare-headed (uncrowned) and wearing a suit and tie, facing left.

The reverse of the coin depicts a stylised scene featuring an Australian astronaut exploring space, with an insert paying homage to WRESAT-1, Australia’s first satellite.

Around this scene, the inscription OUT OF THIS WORLD on the left, and AUSTRALIA IN SPACE on the right.

The designer's monogram EW, for Elyssa Waterford, is in the right field. In the upper left field, either a mint mark (C), or a privy mark (B, M, or S).
