In Switzerland, apart from the government-owned Swissmint, there are also some private mints producing bullion which is not legal tender and is targeted at investors and not at coin collectors, such as this one-ounce silver piece.
This one-ounce silver bar dedicated to the 2024 Chinese Lunar Year of the Dragon is the first in a series of of minted bullion bars which tells the stories of the 12 animals of the Chinese lunar calendar, starting with the Legend of the Azure Dragon.
The Azure Dragon is the guardian of the east. It is said the dragon is a harbinger of the coming spring season, and controls the rain. Throughout the day, a two-hour window of potency is allotted to each animal, and the dragon is at its most powerful between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., and its zenith is marked with Chinese characters that translate as 8 a.m. |

At centre, the obverse displays a detailed image of the moon surrounded by stars, with a small Chinese inscription on the right: 早上八点, meaning "eight in the morning", the hour of the dragon. The twelve large stars surrounding the moon represent the twelve lunar animals of the Chinese calendar, with the dragon being the fifth clockwise from top.
Above, the PAMP SUISSE logo, below which the precious metal content: 1 oz SILVER 999 (one troy ounce of 99.9% silver).
Below that, the unique serial number of each bar and the assay mark PAMP ESSAYEUR FONDEUR (PAMP, assayer and refinery). |
