Coin TypeAustralian Sovereign

Australia has issued gold coins since 1852, when South Adelaide issued a gold pound coin.

Following this, the Sydney Mint issued this type Australian sovereigns, bearing the portrait of Queen Victoria wearing a banksia wreath, from 1855 to 1870, and half sovereigns from 1855 to 1866. The total issue was in the tens of millions yet the type is scarce today, especially in nice condition.

After 1870, the Sydney Mint issue regular Imperial half sovereigns and sovereigns.
