Falkland Islands Referendum 2013 - Cupro Nickel Crown British Pobjoy Mint

The Mint says about this coin:
Celebrating an historical date, this stunning new Uncirculated Cupro Nickel coin from Pobjoy Mint commemorates the recent Falkland Islands’ Referendum. A beautiful tribute to such an event, this coin ties in the Islands’ history with the inclusion within the design of the Falkland Islands’ famous ‘World Directions Signpost’ near Stanley, which was erected by servicemen during The Falklands War. Show more Available as an Uncirculated Cupro Nickel Crown and a Proof Sterling Silver Crown, each of these incredible collector’s coins has been produced to the highest quality. The precious metal coins have been struck four times to create the famous Pobjoy Proof finish and feature stunning sculpted reliefs contrasted against mirror brilliant background. The obverse of each coin carries an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. Ian Rank-Broadley is one of the foremost sculptors working today. His effigy of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II has appeared on all UK coinage since 1998 and the Pobjoy Mint has exclusive use of the ‘uncouped’ effigy that appears on the obverse of these coins. Honouring the Islands’ History and Future As one of the United Kingdom’s Overseas Territories, the Falkland Islands has its own constitution, government and local laws. Following requests for negotiations over the Islands’ sovereignty, the Falklands Islands government held a Referendum on the 10th and 11th March 2013 to enable Falkland Islanders to express their views. The referendum posed the question ‘Do you wish the Falkland Islands to retain their current political status as an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom?’ The results were overwhelming with 92% of voters taking up their democratic right to vote, and of these 99.8% elected to retain the current status. This incredible historical moment has been captured on this stunning commemorative coin and provides a special part of history to add to any collection.
