It is a rare occurrence that a coin is issued with a duel effigy featured on the obverse, this makes this coin incredibly special! Pobjoy Mint has received exclusive approval from the Queen to feature a duel-effigy of her and HRH Prince Philip together. We are incredibly excited to have this permission as it is the first time that this portrait has ever been used on a coin! On the reverse of this coin we have featured a design based on a photograph of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh at Goodwood races in 1954. A smile spreads across the Queens face as she is reunited with the Prince after a few weeks apart. Show more It had been almost a year since the Queen was crowned when a photograph of her and HRH Prince Philip was taken at the 1954 Goodwood Races. Prince Philip had been away for three weeks in Canada serving in the RAF after he had learnt to fly the previous year so they Royal couple were happy to be reunited. Together they watched the Queen’s horse win the first race!
