Obverse: The obverse of the coin celebrates the 100th anniversary of Lithuania's Olympic movement, featuring depictions of discus throwing, shooting, swimming, and modern pentathlon – the sports in which athletes from restored Lithuania have won gold medals. Alongside, there are inscriptions "Lietuva," and the logos of the Lithuanian Olympic Committee and the Lithuanian Mint.
Reverse: The reverse artistically depicts the Olympic flame, symbolizing the strength and determination of athletes, accompanied by abstract figures of athletes. In the background are elements of a stadium, running tracks, and the Eiffel Tower – a symbol of Paris. Inscriptions include "Paryžius," "XXXIII," the denomination "20 €," and the year 2024.
About the coin: 2024 marks the centenary of the Lithuanian Olympic movement – 100 years since Lithuanian athletes first competed in the 8th Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Lithuania became part of the international Olympic family. A century after the 1924 Olympics, the Summer Olympic Games return to France. This year, the host of the XXXIII Olympic Games will provide a unique platform for athletes from 32 sports to showcase their talents.
Over the 100 years of Lithuania’s Olympic movement, our country has produced many talented athletes who are active members of the international sports community. Since the first Olympic Games, Lithuanian athletes have competed in 27 different sports (22 summer and 5 winter), and in 2024, they will debut in a 28th sport – breaking. |
