This coin is part of the "Mountains and Flora" series of over 60 coins released between 2009 and 2016. Throughout the series, which showcases the world’s most famous mountains, the successful initial design has been treated very conservatively - a mountain range in detailed relief in the background supplemented by a coloured native plant in the right-hand foreground. Not even the series name or placement of the issuing year have changed, making coins of this series highly recognisable and the entire set a beautiful homogeneous collection.
Several mini-series such as the "7 Summits" and the "Second 7 Summits", as well as several anniversary issues present popular approaches for collectors to get started with the Mountains and Flora series.
The series concluded in 2016 with the release of Mount Cook and Jungfrau. It is the most comprehensive coin collection of the world’s highest mountains ever minted.
Table Mountain – CIT Coin Invest AG The Mint says about this coin:
The landmark of the South African city Cape Town, the world famous Table Mountain, is situated in an area containing unique flora and fauna. The imposing mountain is located in the northern part of the Cape Peninsular (approx. 53 km long), while in the South the Cape of Good Hope has been both loved and dreaded by Seafaring people for centuries. The 430 million year old Table Mountain was originally about five times higher than it is today. Millenniums of wind- and water erosion have formed the famous flat profile of the white quartz rocks. The 6000 hectare wide nature conservation area, around and on the 1087 m high solid rock, has an extensive flora and fauna. Many of the plants growing here can only be found here. The fauna is varied too. Thus, a close relative of elephants inhabits the escarpments of this mountain: Rock Dassies like being observed and are sometimes even fed by tourists who mainly explore the mountain by cablecar. more CIT Item ID: 25488 Country: Palau Date of issue: 2011 Denomination: 5 Dollars Material: Silver .925 Quality: Proof Mintage: 2500 pcs |
