Trevi Fountain – CIT Coin Invest AG The Mint says about this coin:
The world famous Trevi-Fountain in baroque style was built in Italy’s capital city during an almost twenty year construction period. 20 m wide and 26 m high, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Rome. The aqueduct has been in continuous use since classical antiquity and up until the year 2007 it supplied the Trevi-Fountain with water. In 1732 Nicola Salvi, who was an unknown architect of that time, started with the construction work. Salvi was selected as the winner of an architecture competition by Pope Clement XII. However, the architect died before his masterpiece was completed. One reason was that Nicola Salvi worked extremely accurately and had the detailed sculptures redone again and again until he was totally satisfied.Anyone who visits Rome today is already attracted from afar to the fountain, due to its rushing sound. The magnificent sculptures portray the sea god Neptune who is flanked by proud horses and mythical creatures. With this, Nicola represented the forces of nature which threaten works of mankind. The fountain is framed by a triumphal arch which is structured into the Palazzo Conti’s facade. Legend says that those who throw a coin into the fountain will visit Rome a second time. If two coins are thrown into the fountain one will fall in love with a Roman and those who even throw a third coin in will even marry this acquaintance. Thus, hundreds of thousands of Euro accumulate annually, which are fished out of the fountain daily and donated to charity. more CIT Item ID: 25950 Country: Palau Date of issue: 2012 Denomination: 5 Dollars Material: Silver .925 Quality: Proof Mintage: 2500 pcs |
