The name Big Ben does not really refer to the famous clock tower, but actually only to the heaviest of the five bells in the tower which is 13,5 tons. Naturally local people see this differently.The clock tower with its 96 metres is one of the best-known sights of the city which lies on the Thames. Since 2012, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, it has been called Elizabeth Tower. Twenty-four hours a day, four engineers ensure that everything in the tower functions properly.Big Ben’s chime, which is called the Voice of Britain, is broadcasted on BBC radio hourly. more
