The currency of Samoa is the Tālā, the name of which is a transliteration of the English words Dollar; it was introduced in 1967. On coinage sometimes the English word is inscribed, especially on commemorative and bullion coins not intended to circulate within the country. Samoa has authorised some private mints to issue coins under its jurisdiction, which come in a variety of sizes - including in the popular silver ounce (1 oz silver) format, such as this one. This rectangular coloured silver coin celebrates the 20th anniversary of the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The first novel in the Harry Potter franchise was published in 1997 and was entitled Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. In the American film market, this name was later changed to Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone when the film adaptation of the debut novel was released. J.K. Rowling sold the film rights to Warner Bros. in 1999 and the first novel made its feature-film debut in 2001. | ||||||
