Monopoly was originally created by Elizabeth Magie in 1903 under the name “The Landlord’s Game.” It was intended as a teaching tool to illustrate the negative aspects of land monopolies. However, it wasn’t until Charles Darrow developed a version of the game in the 1930s that it gained widespread popularity.
