The currency of Samoa is the Tālā, the name of which is a transliteration of the English words Dollar; it was introduced in 1967. On coinage sometimes the English word is inscribed, especially on commemorative and bullion coins not intended to circulate within the country. Samoa has authorised some private mints to issue coins under its jurisdiction, which come in a variety of sizes - including a three grams of silver "coin note" format - with a rectangular shape, and very thin to emulate a banknote. One of the most popular works of fantasy fiction in recent decades is George R.R. Martin’s historically-inspired and unique "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, known for its vivid depictions of traumatic warfare, ruthless political manoeuvring, and bizarre sorcery. It became the inspiration for the prestige HBO television series "A Game of Thrones", which is now the subject for Samoa’s series of fantasy collectible silver notes. The date of issue is not actually inscribed on the coin. | ||||||
