1 May 1994 at 14.17. At the San Marino Formula One Grand Prix, on the circuit of Imola, Ayrton Senna starts the 7th lap of the race, in first position. Suddenly the steering column of his Williams FW16 gives way and the car crashes at the bend of the Tamburello, at 240 km/h. At 18.40 in the hospital of Bologna, Ayrton Senna dies. He was 34 years old (born in 1960). 161 Grand Prix races, 41 victories, 65 pole positions, 19 fastest laps in the race and 610 points iridati valid. Three times world champion in 1988, 1990 and 1991. Considered one of the strongest Formula 1 drivers of all time, after twenty years since his death, continues to gather around his name, applause and enthusiasm. In addition to a philatelic issue also a silver coin on design by Marco Petta, and modeling by Silvia Petrassi.
