Brilliant uncirculated divisional coin set 2016

The Council Hall of the XII, a small representation hall in sixteenth-century style inside the Palazzo Pubblico, houses one of the most famous images of the Saint Marino, depicted as he blesses Mount Titano. Traditionally attributed to Guercino, the painting has recently been recognized as the work of his student and collaborator Bartolomeo Gennari (1594-1661). The famous portrait of the saint has been reproduced on the 20 cent coin since 2002. On 3 September of each year, the day that the liturgy dedicates to the veneration of San Marino, The Foundation of the Republic is celebrated with a solemn ceremony that takes place first in the Basilica del Santo and then in the Public Palace in the presence of the major civil and religious authorities and with great participation by citizens. Still today, as in the past centuries, on the occasion of the nomination of the new Captains Regents, the members of the Grand and General Council, before the formal vote in the Council Hall, they resort to the inspiration of the Saint and again the Holy is invoked by the Captains Regents in the solemn oath given at their investiture.
