Pobjoy Mint is delighted to announce the release of this stunning new four coin collection on behalf of the Bank of Sierra Leone, featuring a selection of the amazing animals that live on the plains and in the forests of Africa. This fantastic coin features the Mountain Gorilla, which is the largest and the heaviest of all the living primates. They are normally quiet sociable plant eaters. The world's species are facing their biggest crisis since the age of the dinosaurs. Threats from pollution, habitat destruction and climate change are so severe that a recent UN report says 25 per cent of the world's mammals face extinction within 25 years. The Sierra Leone Government is party to environmental agreements to aid endangered species. This wonderfully dynamic collection portrays each animal at home in its natural habitat in the wilds of the African landscape and features; The Giraffe, which lives in small herds on the African Savannah ranging into the arid zones of Africa and the Sudan where the Acacia trees grow. The Hippo, which spends most of it’s day sleeping or resting in or near water, but when threatened will move deep in to the water or reed beds where it can lie unobserved with only their nostrils and eyelids above the surface of the water. The Crocodile, which is the closest living relative to the dinosaur. These large reptiles have adapted to aquatic existence. The Mountain Gorilla, which is the largest and the heaviest of all the living primates. They are normally quiet sociable plant eaters. This beautiful collection is available in Unc. All are produced to the highest quality and the precious metal coins have been struck four times to produce a glorious mirror finish background with the design in sculpted relief. The obverse carries the Coat of Arms of Sierra Leone.
