2019 Solomon Legends of Music Elvis Presley 1oz Silver Sid Maurer Proof
This 2019 Solomon Islands Legends of Music Elvis Presley honors a man known simply as "the King." No musician in history has changed the course of music quite as he did. Elvis is widely regarded as the first rock and roll superstar. He influenced entire generations with not only his music and dancing but numerous starring roles in films. This coin is one of six in the Legends of Music Series. Part of a mintage of 10,000 pieces, it was struck from .999 fine silver and has select black color printing application that enhances the design.
Classic Elvis Presley Design by Sid Maurer
Like other coins from the Solomon Islands, this one bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. It is the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley that has been on coins for decades. The effigy is encircled by rim inscriptions that offer the monarch's name and essential information about the coin.
The reverse features a Sid Maurer likeness of Elvis Presley. He shows the King in one of his iconic poses. Elvis looks directly at the holder. Just to his right is the inscription "SID MAURER ARTWORK OF ELVIS PRESLEY," while the name of the series, "LEGENDS OF MUSIC," is off to the right. The image is set against a backdrop of a vinyl record, which was created through the use of select black colorization.
The reverse designer, Maurer, had a long and storied career in the music industry that began at Columbia Records in New York when he was just 17. There he would encounter some of the most influential music artists of the last few decades before focusing on his love for painting later in life.
