The evolution of the Zodiac is an interesting tale that offers insight into the formation of the 12-year cycle in the Chinese Lunar calendar. According to ancient lore, the Jade Emperor called a meeting of the members of the animal kingdom. Of those creatures that responded to the Emperor’s call, a 12-year cycle was created that placed each animal in order based upon its arrival to the meeting.
In Chinese culture, individuals born under the sign of particular creatures are said to share characteristics with those animals. For example, those born under the Year of the Monkey are said to be sociable, comedic, and mischievous.
On the obverse face of each 100 Gram PAMP Suisse Lunar Monkey Silver bar is the image of an adult monkey as it walks up a tree branch. The trunk of the tree dominates the center of the design, with the Chinese symbol for monkey engraved down the center.
The reverse face depicts the opposite design of the image found on the obverse. This time you can see the backside of the tree trunk, with only the monkey’s head and tail visible on either side of the massive object. Engravings on this side include the refinery’s logo, the weight, metal content, and purity of the bar, as well as the assayer’s mark and individual serial number.
