The obverse of the 2022 1 oz U.S. Mint Air Force Silver Medallion shows the image of three F-22 fighter jets soaring through the sky. This design was originally created by artist Paul C. Balan, who is an artist in the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program. The image itself includes a pilot wearing an air mask, with his gaze turned toward his target in the distance. Not only do the fighter jets have great detailing, but the cloud features on the background of the obverse are unmatched.
The reverse of the 2022 1 oz U.S. Mint Air Force Silver Medallion is the Air Force Memorial. This design was created by Jamie Franki. Three airmen are seen in the image, with each holding their gun upright for the memorial ceremony. At the top of the reverse is an inscription that spans half the medal and reads: “Service before self. Integrity First. Excellence in all we do.”
