The term French West Indies or French Antilles (French: Antilles françaises) now refers to the territories currently under French sovereignty in the Antilles islands of the Caribbean: Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy; in addition, some of the islands of the present and former British West Indies were once French. Some coins and tokens were issued there before they became formal parts of various territories of France. |
