This portrait of King Charles III shows the monarch bare-headed (not crowned), facing left, wearing a suit and tie. The effigy was developed for use in Canada by Steven Rosati, a Canadian award-winning portrait artist and member of the Portrait Society of Canada, who had already created a number of reverse designs for the Royal Canadian Mint. The designer's initials SR are in the lower right, on the King's lapel. The first $1 Canadian coin ("loonie") bearing King Charles III's likeness was struck on 14 November 2023, which was also the King's 75th birthday. |
