The Currency Management Department of the Nepal Rastra Bank manages the issue and circulation of coins and banknotes in Nepal. Its Mint Division is concerned with the mintage of coins and printing of banknotes, and is cited as the "mint" (sometimes called the Kathmandu Mint) which issued them.
However, from the documentation of the Currency Management Department it is apparent that the coins and banknotes are made elsewhere and the department is only concerned with organising tenders for their production, which is then outsourced to any of a number of foreign mints.
Thus, it is not really clear where coins marked as made by the Nepal Rastra Bank were actually struck. |
