Information about Miley Busiek Frost

Miley Busiek Frost (1941 - )

Miley Busiek Frost, also known as Miley Tucker-Frost, is an American sculptor and coin designer renowned for creating the Type 1 Reverse of the American Gold Eagle bullion range, which featured from 1986 to 2021. A self-taught artist, Frost gained prominence for her patriotic and monumental works, blending classical themes with contemporary symbolism.

Born in Beaumont, Texas, Frost demonstrated artistic talent early, winning a yearbook design competition in high school. She pursued early childhood development studies and took a single community art class in Dallas, remaining largely self-taught in sculpture. Her career began with commissions for commemorative medallions, notably a "Family of Eagles" sculpture selected for Ronald Reagan’s 1981 inaugural commemorative, which later inspired her coin design.

Frost’s reverse design for the American Gold Eagle depicts a male eagle carrying an olive branch to a nest with a female and hatchlings, symbolising national unity and family values. The concept drew from Reagan’s 1980 speech emphasising collective purpose. To secure the design’s adoption, Frost lobbied Congress with bipartisan support, enlisting figures like NFL coaches Tom Landry and Joe Gibbs.
