Walter Ott was an Austrian master engraver, artist and designer who brought his skills to Canada in 1952. He was appointed to the Engraving Department of the Royal Canadian Mint in 1964 and served as Chief Engraver and Art Director from 1977 until his retirement in 1985. Of the more than 1,000 coins and medals he put into production, he was most proud of the Canadian bullion maple leaf that he designed and modeled. |
