Edward VIII (Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David) was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Empire, and Emperor of India, from 20 January 1936 until his abdication on 11 December the same year.
The royal style of King Edward VIII was "By the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India" or (in Latin) "Dei Gratia Magnae Britanniae, Hiberniae et terrarum transmarinarum quae in ditione sunt Britannica Rex, Fidei Defensor, Indiae Imperator".
Interestingly, after his abdication (now styled HRH The Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor), Edward was appointed Governor of the Bahamas and was such between 18 August 1940 and 16 March 1945. |
