This four-coin gold set commemorates the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the world's largest nugget.
The reverse design of the four coins (1oz, 1/4oz, 1/10oz and 1/20oz) features a depiction of the historic find, based on a representation of Stuart Devlin’s depiction of the Welcome Stranger gold nugget as it appeared in The Perth Mint’s 1986 Australian Nugget 1oz gold coin. One of the biggest known alluvial gold nuggets in the world and the largest found in Australia, the Welcome Stranger was discovered in 1869. Weighing more than 72 kilos and containing almost 2,300oz of gold, it sold for about 10,000 British pounds, the equivalent to millions of dollars today.
The set is housed in a prestigious wooden display case with a timber lid. Packaged with an illustrated shipper, each set is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. |
