This set contains ten different half-ounce silver coins depicting Chinese dragons, and was issued to mark the 2024 Chinese Lunar Year of the Dragon.
The mint says about it: Fit for an emperor, this magnificent Year of the Dragon celebration comprises ten 1/2oz Australian Lunar silver coins with designs inspired by art seen on imperial Chinese dragon screens.
The dragon commands the highest respect in Chinese culture. For thousands of years, it was associated with the emperor and his descendants, symbolising wisdom, enlightenment, and benevolence. Those born under the sign of the lunar dragon in 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976 and every 12th preceding year, are said to be ambitious, successful, and charismatic.
The set comprises nine coloured coins each portraying a sinuous dragon and a flaming pearl, a symbol of wisdom. The tenth coin, depicting a forward facing dragon with symbolic water cascading from its mouth, is entirely gilded in fine gold - an exclusive finish only available in this set. |
