Between 2006 and 2022, Germany issued a special 2 Euro coin from a Bundesland (province) every year, depicting an important object from that region. The theme of the 2010 German 2 Euro is the state of Bremen.

Bremen, officially the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen (German: Freie Hansestadt Bremen), is the smallest and least populous of Germany's 16 states. It is informally called Land Bremen ("State of Bremen"), but that is sometimes used even in official contexts. The state consists of the city of Bremen and its seaport exclave, Bremerhaven, surrounded by the larger state of Lower Saxony in northern Germany. The Bremen €2 coin features the City Hall of Bremen and the statue of Roland, paladin of the first Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne and hero of the Battle of Roncevaux Pass.

Germany has five mints which strike circulation coins; they are distinguished by their mint marks - A for Berlin, D for Munich, F for Stuttgart, G for Karlsruhe and J for Hamburg.
