2-Euro-Gedenkmünzenset 2009 Spiegelglanz, Bundesländer - Saarland
Set Name2-Euro-Gedenkmünzenset 2009 Spiegelglanz, Bundesländer - Saarland

Between 2006 and 2022, Germany issued a special 2 Euro coin from a Bundesland (province) every year, depicting an important object from that region. The theme of the 2009 German 2 Euro is the state of Saarland.

The Saarland is a state of Germany in the south west of the country. With an area of 2,570 km2, it is the smallest German state in area apart from the city-states of Berlin, Bremen, and Hamburg. Saarbrücken is the state capital and largest city; other cities include Neunkirchen and Saarlouis. Saarland is mainly surrounded by the department of Moselle (Grand Est) in France to the west and south and the neighbouring state of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany to the north and east; it also shares a small border with the canton of Remich in Luxembourg to the northwest.

The Saarland €2 coin features the Ludwigskirche church in Saarbrücken.

Germany has five mints which strike circulation coins; they are distinguished by their mint marks - A for Berlin, D for Munich, F for Stuttgart, G for Karlsruhe and J for Hamburg. The set contains five coins with the same design, each struck by a different mint and with its respective mint mark. The quality is proof, which in German is called Spiegelglanz.
