This set is one of the range of "historical" sets issued by the Royal Mint, containing new coins and thematically related historic coins. It contains a two-ounce gold proof coin issued in 2023 which features the reverse design of an original Charles I coin, and a "Unite" issued during the reign of King Charles I, sometime between 1625 and 1642.
While the 2023 coin is - obviously - new and in Proof FDC grade, the Unite is acquired through the secondary market; the Mint says it will be in at least "Good Fine" (gF) grade, and may be a different variety and not what is shown in the provided photos (in other words, each of the ten sets is different).
Each set comes with an informative booklet detailing the life and coinage of Charles I, including a focus on the two coins in the set. |
