This set is one of the range of "historical" sets issued by the Royal Mint, containing new coins and thematically related historic coins. It contains a two-ounce gold proof coin issued in 2022 which features the obverse design of an original George I coin, and a gold guinea issued during the reign of King George I, sometime between 1715 and 1727.
While the 2022 coin is - obviously - new and in Proof FDC grade, the gold Guinea is acquired through the secondary market; the Mint says it will be in at least "Fine" (F) grade, and may be a different variety and not what is shown in the provided photos (in other words, each of the twenty sets is different).
Each Limited Edition Presentation comes with a booklet that explores the life and coinage of George I, including the 2022 coin released in the king’s honour. |
