This set is one of the range of "historical" sets issued by the Royal Mint, containing new coins and thematically related historic coins. It contains a two-ounce gold proof coin issued in 2022 which features the reverse design of an original James I coin, and a gold crown issued during the reign of King James I, sometime between 1604 and 1619.
While the 2022 coin is - obviously - new and in Proof FDC grade, the gold crown is acquired through the secondary market; the Mint says it will be in at least "Very Fine" (VF) grade, and may be a different variety and not what is shown in the provided photos (in other words, each of the ten sets is different).
Each set comes with an informative booklet detailing the life and coinage of James I, including a focus on the two coins in the set. |
