This set includes two silver crown-sized coins marking anniversaries of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
The 1977 coin commemorates her Silver Jubilee and depicts the ampulla and anointing spoon that were used in the coronation ceremony. These had been renovated for the coronation of King Charles II, are believed to date respectively from the 14th and 12th centuries, and to be the oldest items in the Regalia to have remained in continual use. There is no inscription on the reverse; the obverse shows the Queen on horseback.
The 2002 coin commemorates the Queen's Golden Jubilee (50 years on the throne). In keeping with the designs of the 1953 coronation crown, and the 1977 silver jubilee crown, the Queen is again shown on horseback. |
