To mark the passing of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, The Royal Mint has curated a special Sovereign set. Each set contains an original Sovereign struck in 1921, the year of Prince Philip’s birth, and a 2021 bullion Sovereign to mark the end of his remarkable life.
The reverse of the sovereigns features Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic St George and the dragon design.
The obverse of the 1921 Sovereign features Bertram Mackennal’s portrait of George V, Her Majesty The Queen’s grandfather; the coin in the set is circulated. The 2021 Sovereign features the fifth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and is struck to bullion standard. |
