The commemorative coins in the 2023 Annual Sets honour icons, events and anniversaries of British cultural and historic significance. They celebrate the 75th birthday of His Majesty The King alongside the life and legacy of the writer JRR Tolkien. They also commemorate the centenary of the world’s most famous steam locomotive, Flying Scotsman, the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the Windrush generation, and 75 years of the National Health Service.
The set contains five non-circulating commemorative coins, and is the first to feature only the effigy of King Charles III on the obverse sides (there was an earlier Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Set with his portrait on two of the coins, but the rest of the coins in the set have the portrait of the late Queen).
The coins in this version of the set are in Proof FDC grade. An oblong proof medal is also included. |
