This set contains five 50 pence coins carrying the reverse designs of commemorative 50 pence issued in earlier years and having military topics; all coins in the set are dated 2019.
The Royal Mint says: "In 1969, The Royal Mint issued the world’s first seven-sided coin. A replacement for the ten-shilling note, over the course of the last 50 years the 50p has become one of the nation’s most iconic coins. A favourite with collectors, over the years it has been used to commemorate some of the most famous moments in military history - the pivotal battles and acts of bravery that are forever etched in to the history books.
As the 50p turns 50, our year of celebration continues with the release of this military themed set. Containing five silver Proof coins - the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, the 50th anniversary of D-Day, the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and two coins commemorating the 150th anniversary of the creation of the Victoria Cross medal - it encapsulates half a century of designs which are sure to appeal to military enthusiasts." |
