This set is one of the "historic" issues by the Royal Mint combining a newly released coin with a historic coin taken from circulation, and celebrates the life of Sir Winston Churchill. The set features a £2 silver commemorative issue, the 1965 Churchill commemorative crown, a silver medal issued in 2024 with a reverse design repeating that of the crown, and all eight 1965-dated UK circulating denominations.
The mint says about it: "Sir Winston Churchill is known as the leader of Britain’s coalition government during the Second World War and one of the nation’s most memorable prime ministers. However, it was the experiences of his younger years that influenced the man he would later become. Towards the end of the nineteenth century, Churchill served in the Queen’s 4th Hussars, whilst young Churchill also worked as a war correspondent that led to his love of writing.
This Collector Set brings together a sterling silver medal, a silver 2024 UK £2 silver Proof coin and several historic coins dated 1965, the year that Churchill passed away. The historic coins include a 1965 Churchill crown along with a half-crown, florin, English shilling, Scottish shilling, sixpence, threepence, penny and halfpenny. Featuring the edge inscription "· PAVE THE WAY FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM" from one of Churchill’s many famous speeches."
The two-pound coin and the medal are in silver and in proof grade. The 1965-dated coins have been sourced from the secondary market. |
