This set is one of the "historic" issues by the Royal Mint combining a newly released coin with a historic coin taken from circulation, and celebrates the life of Sir Winston Churchill. Unlike the two-coin gold set, the premium set also features a crown-sized gold medal with the reverse design of the 1965 Churchill commemorative crown
The mint says about it: "Sir Winston Churchill is often best known as the leader of Britain’s coalition government during the Second World War. However, it was his experiences in his younger years that helped shape his views and influenced his politics in his later years. Towards the end of the nineteenth century, Churchill served in the Queen’s 4th Hussars and gained a lifelong love of writing from his work as a war correspondent.
This premium set brings together a gold medal a 1965 Sovereign, dated with the year that Churchill passed away, and a 2024 UK £2 gold proof coin designed by Natasha Seaward, a graphic designer at The Royal Mint. Featuring the edge inscription "· PAVE THE WAY FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM" from one of Churchill’s many famous speeches; the £2 coin is not available to purchase individually. The gold proof coin features red gold on the inside and yellow gold the outside. The medal in this set also features a portrait of Churchill."
The sovereign has been sourced from the secondary market.
The set comes in a luxury timber box, with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. |
