This set contains "burnished" versions of the four sizes of American Gold Eagle bullion coins issued in 2006 - a full ounce and three fractions (half, quarter, and tenth-ounce), all struck by the West Point Mint and carrying its W mint mark. These are special versions for collectors, unlike the bullion coins of the same year which were struck by the Philadelphia Mint in uncirculated grade and without a mint mark. The "burnished" surface treatment gives these coins a rather distinct look, and was introduced for the first time this year, to mark the 20th anniversary of the American Eagle bullion range.
The set comes in a booklet-styled folder with a Certificate of Authenticity. Mintage is unknown, and the mintage of the coins in the sets is presumably included in the reported complete mintages for the year. |
