This set contains the proof versions of the four different denominations of the American Platinum Eagle coin issued in 2008. The coins were struck by the West Point Mint and have a W mint mark, unlike the bullion coins which were struck by the Philadelphia Mint and have no mint mark.
The proof version is the third in the three-year Branches of Government Series dedicated to the three branches of U.S. government, and is dedicated to the Judicial Branch. The reverse design depicts "Lady Justice" watched over by an American bald eagle. Justice is shown as a walking female figure, robed and blindfolded, raising the "scales of justice" with her right hand and holding a short sword in her left hand. The eagle is behind her, perched on a pedestal, with outstretched wings. |
