The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness is the fifth of five sites to be honoured in 2019 and the 50th overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program. The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness is made up of rugged mountains, deep canyons, and wild whitewater rivers, including the Main Salmon River and Middle Fork of the Salmon River. The name “Frank Church” was attached to the site’s name in 1984 to honour the late U.S. Senator who played a leading role in its preservation.
The reverse (tails) design depicts a piloted drift boat on the rushing river encompassed by the trees and rock formations of the wilderness. Inscriptions are “RIVER OF NO RETURN", “WILDERNESS", “IDAHO", “2019", and “E PLURIBUS UNUM".
Each three-coin set features an uncirculated quarter from the Philadelphia Mint, an uncirculated quarter from the Denver Mint, and a proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint. The coins are held in a durable plastic card that features a picturesque image and a brief description of the site and the coin, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity on the back of the card. |
