Andorra is a small European country which does not issue its own circulation currency. It is not a member of the European Union, but enjoys a special relationship with it. Andorra lacked a currency of its own and used both the French Franc and the Spanish Peseta in banking transactions until 31 December 1999, when both currencies were replaced by the European Union's single currency, the Euro. Andorra issues Euro coins in small quantities for coin collectors, but also has a special currency, the Andorran Diner - called Diner andorrà in Catalan - which, unlike the Euro, is not legal tender. Coins of various denominations of this currency have been issued since 1977; the Ten Diners (abbreviated as 10 D.) format was introduced in 1984.
