Overstruck Spanish American 8 Real coin issued to supplement a deficiency in British silver coins. The coins were struck by the Soho Mint, Birmingham between 1804 and 1811, though all bear the date 1804. They were withdrawn in 1817-1818. Proofs were also stuck on specially prepared flans, so these do not show a ghost of a host coin unlike many of the circulation coins. | ||||
