Malta has been using the Euro as its currency since 2008. Apart from the regular circulation coinage, the country also issues non circulating commemorative coins.

According to Eurozone convention, "regular" circulating denominations are between one cent and two Euro, and non-circulating coins should be otherwise denominated - such as €2.50 (two and a half Euro); these are legal tender in Malta only, and not in the whole Eurozone.
