This exclusive and prestigious release offers the opportunity to own four Lunar Calendar designs. Reputedly, the oldest chronological record in history, the ancient Chinese Lunar Calendar dates back before 2,600 BC. Based on the appearance of the new moon, it associates a different animal with each year in the 12-year lunar cycle. Traditionally, the first year of the lunar cycle is ‘ruled’ by the mouse. According to legend, the order of the animals in Chinese astrology was determined by their race across a river. STUNNING LUNAR SERIES II COLOURED DESIGN 2008 Year of the Mouse The coin’s coloured reverse depicts a mouse crouching on a bed of stones with chilli pepper foliage in the background. The inscription ‘Year of the Mouse’ and the Chinese character for ‘mouse’ are incorporated in the design. 2009 Year of the Ox The coloured reverse of each coin depicts an ox lying on grass with bamboo branches above, and accompanied by the inscription ‘Year of the Ox’ and the Chinese character for ‘ox’. 2010 Year of the Tiger The coloured reverse of the coin depicts a tiger’s head, the Chinese character for ‘tiger’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Tiger’. 2011 Year of the Rabbit The coin's reverse depicts an adult rabbit and a young rabbit in colour. The rabbits are surrounded by foliage and a tree with creepers entwined in its branches. The Chinese character for ‘rabbit’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Rabbit’ also appear in the design. The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark is incorporated into each of the reverse designs. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date and the monetary denomination are shown on the obverse of each coin. AUSTRALIAN LEGAL TENDER The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. LIMITED RELEASE Only 500 sets in this packaging will be released. Each individual coin has a mintage of 50,000.
