The 2014 1 oz Arctic Fox and the Northern Lights Silver Coin has been produced by the Royal Canadian Mint as the 5th and final 1 oz coin addition to their popular O Canada series. Each of these coins have been minted with 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine silver and also have a $25 CAD face value. This coin is available in brand new, proof condition and will ship in its RCM maroon clamshell display box with a serialized COA.
The obverse of the coin provides viewers with an intimate look at the arctic fox in its boreal tundra home. This mischievous creature has been depicted leaping across a stream, perhaps en route to find food. Illuminating the background behind it is the natural phenomenon known as “aurora polaris” or the “northern lights.” From the realistic positioning of its pouncing body to its mirror-like reflection in the stream, viewers will undoubtedly be impressed by the level of detail demonstrated in the rendering of both this cunning creature as well as its arctic environment. Printed along the border of this image is the coin’s country of issue and its denomination.
Serving as the central focal point of the reverse side is the portrait of Elizabeth II. She is depicted in profile with a poised, but warm expression on her face. This effigy symbolizes Canada’s former position as a British colony as well as its ongoing devotion to the country’s monarch. Further emphasizing this allegiance to the crown are the engravings on opposing sides of her profile: her title and the abbreviation, “D.G. Regina,” which translates into “By the Grace of God, Queen.”
