The Cook Islands, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar circulates in parallel with the local Cook Islands Dollar; at the same time, the government also authorises many legal tender coins in the Cook Islands Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

Amaterasu is the Goddess of the sun and the universe in Japanese mythology. Translated, her full name Amaterasu-Ōmikami means “the great august deity illuminating the heavens”, or “heaven-illuminating great deity.” Her major shrine is located the Ise Grand Shrine. She is considered a direct ancestor of the Japanese imperial family. The mirror with which she is often depicted is the Imperial House of Japan’s emblem. Amaterasu is celebrated every 17th July with street processions all over the country. |
